现在市场上常用的种子95%以上都是杂交品种，【同种类型的蔬菜不同种群，不同基因型个体间进行杂交育成的品种。】
杂种一代结合了父母的优点，市场中如大白菜、甘蓝、洋葱、辣椒、黄瓜、萝卜、西瓜、胡萝卜、西红柿、茄子等等基本都是杂交品种中的杂种一代产品。
但是杂交蔬菜不能留种，从第二代开始，便产生分离现象，生长不一致，产量降低。所以生产上的蔬菜杂交品种只能种一年，不能继续留种。
